Basketball Preview: Council Grove Braves vs. Eureka Tornadoes
The Council Grove Braves will head out on the road to square off against the Eureka Tornadoes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Council Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Monday.
Last Monday, Council Grove didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Indians, but they still walked away with a 46-41 win. The victory was just what Council Grove needed coming off of a 67-37 loss in their prior contest.
Council Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brycen Palmquist led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Palmquist has scored at least a third of Council Grove's points. Another player making a difference was Kolby Rose, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Eureka's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight defeat. They were beaten by Fredonia 55-28. Eureka has not had much luck with the Yellowjackets recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Council Grove has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. As for Eureka, they dropped their record down to 2-13 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Council Grove took their win against the Tornadoes in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 50-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for Council Grove since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
