Baseball Game Preview: Apple Springs Eagles vs. Zavalla Eagles

Apple Springs will head out on the road to square off against Zavalla at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Apple Springs nor Zavalla posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Apple Springs is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 24th on Tuesday. They lost 8-1 to Brookeland. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Eagles' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Cooper Campbell put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Chester hit Zavalla with a five-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Yellowjackets, falling 11-1. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Zavalla saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Garret D.Ykes, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Apple Springs now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Zavalla, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Apple Springs got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Zavalla by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will Apple Springs repeat their success, or does Zavalla has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
