Football Game Preview: Vandegrift Vipers vs. San Marcos Rattlers

The Vandegrift Vipers will square off against the San Marcos Rattlers on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Vandegrift is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 37-7 victory over Brandeis. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Vipers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Broncos are ranked 271st).

Meanwhile, San Marcos entered their tilt with Edinburg on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bobcats 33-3.

San Marcos' win came from a few key players Vandegrift will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jordan Lampkin, who picked up 183 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 55 yards. Frans Steyn also helped out by tossing the rock for 262 yards.

Vandegrift's record is now 10-2. As for San Marcos, their record now sits at 8-4.

Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Vandegrift has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 165.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like San Marcos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 173.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Vandegrift against San Marcos when the teams last played back in November of 2021, as the squad secured a 52-14 win. Do the Vipers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rattlers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
