Coastal Academy is 0-5 against Escondido Charter since April of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. The Coastal Academy Stingrays will be playing at home against the Escondido Charter Tigers at 3:30 p.m. Coastal Academy will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak dating back to last season.
Coastal Academy's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past La Jolla Country Day 12-0. Fans of the Stingrays have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Kailee Tran made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Tran wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kayden Hernandez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Another was Mikenzie Trevino, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Coastal Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .343 or higher in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Escondido Charter). Everything went their way against Madison on Monday as Escondido Charter made off with a 12-2 victory. With that win, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Selena Salas, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Natalya Powers was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Escondido Charter is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. Coastal Academy pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both Coastal Academy and Escondido Charter just can't seem to miss. Coastal Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Escondido Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
