Recap: Santa Rita Eagles vs. Tombstone Yellow Jackets
The Santa Rita Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their ninth straight defeat. They were beaten by Tombstone 66-17. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Santa Rita in their matchups with Tombstone: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Santa Rita still got an impressive performance from Jayla Brabham, who scored nine points. That was a full 52.9% of Santa Rita's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
It was another big night for Rachel Thursby, who scored 19 points for Tombstone. Thursby has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brooklynn Penrose, who scored 13 points.
Santa Rita's loss was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Tombstone, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-11.
Santa Rita will head out on the road to face off against Pima at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Tombstone, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Benson at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tombstone has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
