The Atkins Camels will face off against the Northeast Guilford Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Friday just wasn't the day for Atkins' offense. They came up short against Rockingham County on Friday, falling 9-0. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northeast Guilford). They came out on top against Ben L. Smith on Friday by a score of 22-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won seven matchups by 12 runs or more so far this season.
Micah Wilson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Northeast Guilford is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Northeast Guilford got a massive performance out of Noah Clark, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Clark a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caiden McNeil, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Northeast Guilford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben L. Smith only posted a batting average of .091.
Northeast Guilford is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. Atkins' loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
Everything went Atkins' way against Northeast Guilford in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Atkins made off with a 22-1 win. Does Atkins have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northeast Guilford turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
