Football Recap: Merced Skates Past Enochs with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Merced). They blew past the Enochs Eagles, posting a 56-12 victory. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 167th, while the Eagles are ranked 673rd) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Merced had a senior duo take command as Cammarri Jackson rushed for 124 yards and four scores on only ten carries and Vicente Cortez rushed for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries. Those 124 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Jackson.

Merced was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 307 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

One reason for the win was Merced's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jackson, Dougie Andrews, and Brandon Peel, who each picked up one sack apiece.

The win keeps Merced at an undefeated 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 43.0 points this season. As for Enochs, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merced will square off against Golden Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
