Mitchell is 1-8 against Falcon since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mitchell Marauders will venture away from home to challenge the Falcon Falcons at 5:30 p.m.
Mitchell is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They fell 41-28 to Sierra. While losing is never fun, the Marauders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 311th, while the Stallions are ranked 153rd).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was JayCionna Fisher, who posted 15 points and six rebounds. That was a full 53.6% of Mitchell's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Roberts, who put up four points and five boards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Falcon). They blew past Elizabeth 76-14 on Tuesday. With that victory, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 50.4 points per game.
Falcon's win came from a few key players Mitchell will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cobelyn Wiesner, who went 6-for-10 on her way to 17 points and three steals. What's more, she also posted a 60% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alexis Hunter, who went 6-for-12 en route to 12 points and eight rebounds.
Falcon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 25 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Falcon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 40 points. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mitchell has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Falcon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Mitchell took a serious blow against Falcon when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 60-18. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mitchell was down 35-11.
