Recap: Frederick Golden Eagles vs. Roosevelt Roughriders
It was a good run, but the Frederick Golden Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. Their tough 68-48 defeat to Roosevelt might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Frederick in their matchups with Roosevelt: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the defeat, Frederick had strong showings from Gabby Jima, who scored 17 points, and Kaylee Gardner, who scored seven points along with three steals. Gardner hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Hansen, who scored six points.
Roosevelt's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kinsey Trujillo, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Trujillo continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kyla Hollier was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Frederick's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5. As for Roosevelt, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-1.
Frederick will take on Riverdale Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Riverdale Ridge's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games. As for Roosevelt, they will head out on the road to challenge Mountain View at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Mountain View is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season.
