Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Clinton

Clinton waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Vicksburg Gators get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Arrows might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Jack Grove looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ethan Dodson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Josef Walker was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Clinton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .760. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Clinton pushed their record up to 14-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Vicksburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clinton will take on Florence at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clinton 3.8, Florence 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Vicksburg, they will face off against Columbus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
