Basketball Game Preview: West Jordan Jaguars vs. Cyprus Pirates

West Jordan and Cyprus are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2015, but not for long. The West Jordan Jaguars will challenge the Cyprus Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Friday, West Jordan was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 64-58 to Varsity Opponent.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Giselle Muffett, who posted 20 points along with seven boards and three steals. Her afternoon made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Marlee Reupena was another key player, putting up 20 points.

Even though they lost, West Jordan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Cyprus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by Syracuse and fell 76-35. The Pirates were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-17.

Cyprus' defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for West Jordan, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

West Jordan couldn't quite finish off Cyprus in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 72-70. Can West Jordan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
