Softball Recap: Volunteer Beats Greeneville for Their Fourth Straight Win

While Volunteer didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Greeneville Greene Devils 10-1 on Tuesday. The Falcons' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Addyson Fisher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Volunteer got a massive performance out of Zetta Smith, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Ford, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Volunteer pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Greeneville, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Volunteer will host Claiborne at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Volunteer's pitching crew has only allowed 0.2 runs per game this season, so Claiborne's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Greeneville, they will be playing at home against Grainger at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Greeneville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
