Basketball Recap: Peighton Marrero Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Meeker

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Strasburg walked away with it. They walked away with a 54-46 win over the Meeker Cowboys on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.

Strasburg got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Peighton Marrero out in front who shot 45% from the field on her way to 20 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Natalie Damron, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.

Strasburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Meeker lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Rylee Sullivan, who went 8-for-19 to rack up 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The contest was her third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Castillo, who shot 47% from the field en route to 14 points and eight steals.

Strasburg's win bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Meeker, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Strasburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-57 victory against Roaring Fork on the 8th. Meeker does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
