The Sheldon Huskies are taking a road trip to take on the Elk Grove Thundering Herd at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sheldon's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Elk Grove's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Sheldon took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Pleasant Grove, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.
Not much got past Micah Kennedy, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Pleasant Grove off the board.
On the hitting side, Sheldon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicole Camacho-Vasquez, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elk Grove). They blew past Laguna Creek 13-1 on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Thundering Herd in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won eight in a row.
Ryann Wolfe was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadyn Magnuson, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Elk Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sheldon pushed their record up to 13-5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Elk Grove, their record now sits at 10-6.
Sheldon came out on top in a nail-biter against Elk Grove in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Thundering Herd have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
