Preview: Metlakatla Chiefs vs. Haines Glacier Bears
Metlakatla has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. The Metlakatla Chiefs and the Haines Glacier Bears will face off on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Metlakatla will be strutting in after a win while Haines will be coming in after a loss.
Metlakatla can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent contest on Saturday. They blew past Wrangell 54-34. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Metlakatla has posted yet this season.
Lexi Cook was the offensive standout of the contest as she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. She also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryley Booth, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Haines' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Craig 36-30.
Metlakatla's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. As for Haines, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Metlakatla strolled past Haines when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 53-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Metlakatla since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
