Softball Recap: Portales Wins Going Away Against Clovis

While Portales didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Clovis Wildcats 11-1 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won four contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Annaleah Lujan made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Myleigh Banda, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Addyson Mayberry, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Portales is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Clovis, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Portales has already played their next game, a 7-1 loss against St. Michael's on the 8th. Hopefully Clovis payed attention to the Rams' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
