Softball Recap: Petaluma Snags Sixth Victory in Last Eight Games

Petaluma won the last time they faced Justin-Siena and things went their way on Friday too. The Trojans blew past the Braves 16-2. Considering the Trojans have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Petaluma got a great performance from Taylor Cook as she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Cook has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, Lauren Wilson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Itzel Ruiz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Petaluma kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Petaluma is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Justin-Siena, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Petaluma will challenge Vintage at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 3.1, the Crushers 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Justin-Siena, they will take on Hercules at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Braves will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests.
