Baseball Recap: Newark Comes Up Short

Newark fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Geneva on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 4-3. The Reds were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 9-8.

Devin Littlefield spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carlos Martinez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Newark now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Geneva, their record is now 6-11.

Newark didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-0 defeat against Wayne on the 16th. As for Geneva, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 6-0 loss against Palmyra-Macedon on the 16th.
