Softball Game Preview: Fountain Lake Cobras vs. Maumelle Charter Falcons

The Fountain Lake Cobras will head out to take on the Maumelle Charter Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Fountain Lake came out on top against ESTEM on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 15-run third inning. The Cobras' pitcher stepped up to hand the Mets a 17-0 shutout. The game marked the Cobras' most dominant win of the season.

Abby Morgan was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Morgan was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and one triple while going 3-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kendall Gunnoe and Kinsley Burks did most of the damage at the plate: Gunnoe went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Burks went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Gunnoe a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Fountain Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .607. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Maumelle Charter ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against Little Rock Southwest by a score of 22-19.

Maumelle Charter's record now sits at 5-11. As for Fountain Lake, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10.
