Preview: Edmonson County Wildcats vs. Butler County Bears

The Edmonson County Wildcats on the road again on Friday and play against the Butler County Bears at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Edmonson County suffered their biggest loss yet this season back in December of 2023. They were the victim of a tough 72-52 defeat at the hands of Barren County. While losing is never fun, Edmonson County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Barren County is ranked 73rd).

Meanwhile, Butler County pushed their score all the way to 79 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 89-79 to Christ Presbyterian Academy. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Tuesday (76), Butler County still had to take the loss.

Despite their loss, Butler County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lawson Rice, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Rice is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ty Price, who scored 29 points.

Edmonson County has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Butler County, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Edmonson County beat Butler County 82-74 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Edmonson County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
