Basketball Recap: Luella Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Luella had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.7 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 74-30 win over the Douglass Astros. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 22 points or more this season.

Luella's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angel Thomas led the charge by going 6 for 9 en route to 15 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. What's more, Thomas also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Baxter, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Luella smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Luella pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.8 points per game. As for Douglass, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.

Luella wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 87-23 win against Stone Mountain on the 27th. As for Douglass, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 34-32 loss against Mt. Zion on the 28th.
