Basketball Recap: Saugerties Comes Up Short

Saugerties fought the good fight in their overtime contest against New Paltz on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the New Paltz Huguenots by a score of 70-68. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Sawyers have suffered against the Huguenots since February 1, 2019.

When it comes to explaining why Saugerties lost, don't look at Jack Parisio. Despite the final result, he went 15 of 24 to rack up 32 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Parisio a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mccoy Rothe, who posted 15 points and six boards.

Saugerties' loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-6. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 37.5% in those games and 29.7% outside of them. As for New Paltz, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Saugerties wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 47-28 defeat against Marlboro Central on the 11th. As for New Paltz, they will welcome Wallkill at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
