Basketball Recap: Michigan City Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Michigan City came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Merrillville Pirates by a score of 67-59. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Pirates are ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Michigan City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terrance Mccray, who posted 11 points. Mccray is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 60% in the last three games he's played. Taquerion Vanburen was another key player, putting up 12 points and six boards.

Despite the loss, Merrillville had strong showings from Charles Hardiman, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 23 points and six rebounds, and Kelvion Brown, who shot 71% from the field en route to 15 points and eight boards. Hardiman continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen McAlister, who earned six points and six rebounds.

Michigan City's record now sits at 13-9. As for Merrillville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.

Michigan City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Merrillville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 70-62 win against Hobart on the 22nd.
