Basketball Recap: Lovington Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Lovington entered their contest against Taos on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Lovington Wildcats took a 70-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Taos Tigers. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Lovington still got an impressive performance from Kayle Covington, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points along with seven boards and three steals. Covington is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xzavier Casarez, who posted nine points.

Lovington's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-5. As for Taos, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.

Lovington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-42 win against Belen on the 11th. Taos has also already played their next contest, a 62-55 victory against Goddard on the 11th.
