Softball Game Preview: Hancock Hawks vs. Pearl River Central Blue Devils

The Hancock Hawks will face off against the Pearl River Central Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Hancock sitting on seven straight wins and Pearl River Central on six.

Hancock is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Terry 16-1. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by six runs or more this season.

Teegan DeWitt was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Carver, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hancock kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Six must be Pearl River Central's lucky number: they beat Pascagoula with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Blue Devils beat the Panthers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-4.

Pearl River Central's victory bumped their record up to 14-6-1. As for Hancock, their win bumped their record up to 20-4.

Hancock took their victory against Pearl River Central in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 10-4 score. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
