Soccer Game Preview: Bishop Walsh vs. Chestnut Ridge

The Bishop Walsh Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Chestnut Ridge Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Bishop Walsh's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

On Thursday, Bishop Walsh didn't have quite enough to beat Frankfort and fell 2-1. While losing is never fun, Bishop Walsh can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' soccer rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 148th in Maryland, while Frankfort are ranked 38th in West Virginia).

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Chestnut Ridge and Greater Johnstown, and Greater Johnstown kept the tradition alive. The Lions lost 3-0 to the Trojans on Wednesday.

Bishop Walsh's loss dropped their record down to 8-10-2. As for Chestnut Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Bishop Walsh took their win against Chestnut Ridge in their previous meeting on Saturday by a conclusive 5-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
