Grand County has gone 9-1 against Monticello recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Grand County will be playing at home against Monticello at 3:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Grand County has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Monticello will arrive with three straight victories.
Grand County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Gunnison Valley on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 6-5 to the Bulldogs, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Caden Swasey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 13 matchups. Another player making a difference was Jt Dowd, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Monticello hadn't done well against Nucla recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Monticello put the hurt on Nucla with a sharp 11-1 win. Fans of the Buckaroo have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Triston Felix was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Jackson Keyes was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Keyes is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Camren Carpenter was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Monticello was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nucla only posted a batting average of .143.
Grand County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Monticello, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Grand County took their win against Monticello when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 19-6. Will Grand County repeat their success, or does Monticello has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
