Basketball Game Preview: Hopewell Blue Devils vs. Highland Springs Springers

After both having extra time off, the Hopewell Blue Devils and the Highland Springs Springers will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopewell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 74.3 points per game this season.

Highland Springs is hoping to do what Manchester couldn't last Saturday: put an end to Hopewell's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Hopewell strolled past Manchester with points to spare, taking the game 50-34. The 50-point effort marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Hopewell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nick Byrd, who posted 12 points. Deshawn Spellman was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Highland Springs). Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 93-66 stomp they got against Stafford. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Hopewell's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Highland Springs, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-4.

Hopewell won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, slipping by Highland Springs 56-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hopewell since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
