Basketball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Patriots vs. Telos

The Mount Vernon Patriots will take on Telos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Vernon's offense hasn't had much luck over their past three games, but Friday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mount Vernon is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Dugway on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mount Vernon lost 50-26 to Dugway. The Patriots were down 42-21 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Andre Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Pablo Lopez was another key player, putting up seven points.

Meanwhile, Telos made easy work of Utah School for the Deaf & Blind on Wednesday and carried off a 57-31 win. With Telos ahead 31-11 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Telos' win came from a few key players Mount Vernon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Evan Hawkins, who posted 24 points in addition to five boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacobb Prussman, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds.

Telos was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Telos' victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-13. As for Mount Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-13.

Everything came up roses for Mount Vernon against Telos in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 79-44 win. In that contest, Mount Vernon amassed a halftime lead of 49-18, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
