Lyndhurst extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 10-16. They took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cresskill Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 back in April.
Lyndhurst got a massive performance out of Alexa Gibbons, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Gianna Lembo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
As for Cresskill, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.
On Cresskill's side, Lily Simonneta and Sophia Coleman were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Simonneta pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Coleman tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Simonneta went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Coleman earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Angelina Cecere was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Depalo, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Lyndhurst and Cresskill are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Golden Bears will face off against West Morris Central on Tuesday. As for Cresskill, they will challenge Hawthorne on Tuesday.
