Basketball Recap: Sand Creek Takes a Loss

Sand Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 59-29 loss at the hands of the Discovery Canyon Thunder. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Thunder are ranked 115th).

Tahji Vinson and Kayla Dempsey certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Vinson posted six points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Dempsey put up seven points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Dempsey a new career-high in rebounds.

Even though they lost, Sand Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Natalie Neuhaus was a one-woman wrecking crew for Discovery Canyon as she went 8 for 17 on her way to 20 points and five steals. Addison Hulse was another key player, going 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and six boards.

Sand Creek's record now sits at 5-10. As for Discovery Canyon, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-6 record.

Sand Creek has already played their next contest, a 50-33 defeat against Elizabeth on the 29th. As for Discovery Canyon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-31 win against Cheyenne Mountain on the 28th.
