Baseball Game Preview: State College Little Lions vs. Mechanicsburg Wildcats

The State College Little Lions will take on the Mechanicsburg Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.

State College came up short against Cedar Cliff on Tuesday, falling 10-3. The Little Lions haven't had much luck with the Colts recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mechanicsburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They put the hurt on Central Dauphin with a sharp 12-4 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their two-run performance the match before.

James Markowitz tossed a big game, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mechanicsburg got a massive performance out of Jager Nailor, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Nailor a new career-high. Dane Mark was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Mechanicsburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Mechanicsburg pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for State College, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
