Basketball Recap: Millard Comes Up Short

It was a Battle of the Birds when Millard challenged Piute on Saturday. The Millard Eagles were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to the Piute Thunderbirds. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now lost three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Millard lost, don't look at Derk Memmott. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 18 en route to 28 points and six assists. Those 28 points gave Memmott a new career-high. Noah Rowell was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 15 points and eight boards.

Memmott wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Millard was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Millard's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Piute, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-9.

Millard didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 75-53 loss against Enterprise on the 5th. As for Piute, they will face off against Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Piute has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 207 points over their last three games.
