After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McClave, Las Animas was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They breezed by the Rocky Ford Meloneers to the tune of 54-16. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 25 points or more this season.
Las Animas was led to victory by Orion Martinez and Braydon Ortiz. Martinez rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, while Ortiz rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Ortiz is becoming a predictor of Las Animas' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is 3-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).
Las Animas was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 312 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Ford only rushed for 63.
Las Animas wouldn't let Rocky Ford keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Cody Netherton, Dylan Crites, and Sam Deatherage picked up one apiece.
