Preview: Moberly Spartans vs. Jefferson City Jays
Moberly is 0-1 against Jefferson City since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Moberly Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Jefferson City Jays at 7:00 p.m. Moberly is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Last Thursday, Moberly got themselves on the board against Mexico, but Mexico never followed suit. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bulldogs and snuck past 2-0. The victory was just what Moberly needed coming off of a 28-8 defeat in their prior game.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Jefferson City, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-14 loss to Battle/Columbia Independent on Thursday. Jefferson City has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jefferson City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zach Barnes, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown, and Kantrell Jordan who gained 96 total yards.
Moberly's win bumped their season record to 7-1 while Jefferson City's defeat dropped theirs to 4-4.
Moberly was dealt a bruising 58-14 loss at the hands of Jefferson City when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Moberly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
