League recap: La Costa Canyon's Johnson delivers best pitching performance from past week

La Costa Canyon's Carter Johnson was the best pitcher in Avocado - West this week. He struck out 13 batters this week.

Top honors in the league this week go to Vista, which finished with four wins overall, good for best in the league. The Panthers beat Granite Hills 15-3, Del Norte 4-2, Coronado 6-2 and San Pasqual 15-2.

Carlsbad's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 17 hits and six walks to lead the league in both categories.

The league boasted 14 .400 hitters over the past week. They were led by Anthony Balderas, who hit .600 this week (9-for-15).

Scott Souter, Colin Winters and Billy Roth hit home runs this week.



Roth led Vista to a win on March 20, as he notched 11 strikeouts to beat the Nighthawks, 4-2.

The Lancers' Slater Lee threw six shutout innings in a 4-0 win over Ramona on Thursday. He pitched six scoreless innings and struck out eight, while giving up two hits.
