Baseball Recap: Benson Comes Up Short

Benson extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 36 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They came up short against the Burke Bulldogs, falling 24-0. The Bunnies were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Burke, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Burke's part, Kyle Tipler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Tipler a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Burke's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-15 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Burke let Alec Carlson and Tanner Pickett run wild. Carlson went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Pickett went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was Carlson's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rigley Renbarger, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Benson will take on rival Lincoln High at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Burke is set to face off against their familiar foe Buena Vista at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
