Football Game Preview: Astoria Fishermen vs. St. Helens Lions

The Astoria Fishermen are taking a road trip to challenge the St. Helens Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Astoria nor St. Helens posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Astoria is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They came up short against Scappoose, falling 33-7. While losing is never fun, the Fishermen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon football rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Indians are ranked 30th).

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 55-7, which was the final score in St. Helens' tilt against Seaside on Friday. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Seagulls recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

St. Helens' defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Astoria, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Everything came up roses for Astoria against St. Helens when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 41-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fishermen since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
