Preview: Riverpointe Christian Academy Wolves vs. Cross Trojans
The Riverpointe Christian Academy Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Cross Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Riverpointe Christian Academy pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to Northwood Academy. Riverpointe Christian Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, Riverpointe Christian Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kevin Dukes Jr, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Dukes Jr scored a full 30.4% of Riverpointe Christian Academy's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Alante Manigo Jr, who scored six points along with six assists and five steals.
Even though they lost, Riverpointe Christian Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cross pushed their score all the way to 66 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 76-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stratford. It was the first time this season that Cross let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Cross had strong showings from Caden Ramsey, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds, and Jamez Way, who scored 25 points along with five steals. The match was Way's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lavell Joyner, who scored six points.
Riverpointe Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Cross, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Riverpointe Christian Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 53.6 points per game. It's a different story for Cross, though, as they've been averaging only 70.7 points per game.
