Basketball Recap: Battle Mountain Huskies vs. Summit Tigers
Battle Mountain's game on Thursday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 47-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Summit Tigers. The loss continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.
Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Izzy Kovacik, who went 5 of 8 to rack up 14 points and five rebounds. What's more, Kovacik also posted a 63% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Elle Glendining, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 10 points and six boards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Summit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Katelynn Smith, who posted 14 points and five rebounds. Smith continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Avery Eytel was another key player, putting up five points in addition to 11 boards and three steals.
Battle Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Summit, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Moffat County the next time they take the court. Summit will host Moffat County at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Battle Mountain will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
