Softball Game Preview: South Side Rams vs. Avella Eagles

The South Side Rams will venture away from home to square off against the Avella Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. South Side will be strutting in after a win while Avella will be coming in after a loss.

South Side will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Bishop Canevin on Wednesday. The Rams put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 22-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Ariel Poelcher, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (five). Brooke McNary was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, Avella was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 17-2 to West Greene.

Avella saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Rush, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Avella's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for South Side, they now have a winning record of 7-6-1.

South Side got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 against Avella by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
