Baseball Game Preview: Cumberland Valley Eagles vs. Northern York Polar Bears

The Cumberland Valley Eagles will challenge the Northern York Polar Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Cumberland Valley's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Northern York's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Cumberland Valley's offense. They fell just short of Cedar Cliff by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. The loss was the Eagles' first of the season.

Cumberland Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaden Schoenly, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits Schoenly has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Northern York wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The loss put an end to their undefeated start to the season.

Matthew Kendall made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Ambrose Depasqua was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Cumberland Valley fell to 3-1. As for Northern York, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Cumberland Valley's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. Cumberland Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Northern York, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cumberland Valley continue to outrun the ball?

Everything went Cumberland Valley's way against Northern York in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Cumberland Valley made off with a 16-5 win. Will Cumberland Valley repeat their success, or does Northern York has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
