Softball Game Preview: Seattle Prep Panthers vs. Holy Names Academy

The Seattle Prep Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against Holy Names Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Seattle Prep has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Seattle Prep is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bishop Blanchet.

Hayden Downer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Libby Jenness also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Holy Names Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They came up short against Eastside Catholic, falling 12-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Holy Names Academy has suffered since March 15th.

Lee Smedstad was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Delanie Gilda was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Holy Names Academy now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Seattle Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Seattle Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Holy Names Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
