The Whitley County Colonels will finish 2023 at home by hosting the South-Doyle Cherokees at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Whitley County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matchups.
Whitley County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 21 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 80-48 win over Belfry at home. Given Whitley County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Belfry is ranked 132nd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, South-Doyle took their game on the road on Thursday with ease, bagging a 62-28 victory over Varsity Opponent. That 62-28 margin sets a new team best for South-Doyle this season.
Whitley County's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for South-Doyle, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
