Football Recap: Taft Piles Up the Points Against Delano

Taft's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 54-26 victory over the Delano Tigers. The Wildcats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Taft's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joe Weber led the charge by rushing for 136 yards and two TDs on only 15 carries, while also picking up 97 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Those 136 rushing yards gave Weber a new career-high. Hunter Melton did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 87 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Taft was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Taft didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Weber and Brock Fuller. Weber got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Delano lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Julian 'Juju' Herrera, who rushed for 139 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 84 receiving yards. Another receiver making a difference was Raul Quezada, who picked up 123 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Taft's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Delano, they dropped their record down to 4-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Taft didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 47-20 loss against West on the 7th. As for Delano, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 52-28 defeat against Morro Bay on the 7th.
