Basketball Recap: Laporte Wildcats vs. Red Lake Warriors
The Laporte Wildcats came into Friday's match having lost 15 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past Red Lake with a 48-43 win on Friday. The victory was just what Laporte needed coming off of a 79-17 defeat in their prior game.
Red Lake lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rhianna May, who scored eight points along with 17 rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Ava Northbird, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Laporte's win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-23. As for Red Lake, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laporte will square off against the Thunder at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Long Prairie-Grey Eagle is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. As for Red Lake, they will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nevis presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Warriors in Minnesota (the Tigers are ranked 164th, while the Warriors are ranked 360th).
