Softball Recap: Ocean Lakes Has No Trouble Against Bayside

Ocean Lakes came out on top against Bayside on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Dolphins put the hurt on the Marlins with a sharp 7-1 victory. Considering the Dolphins have won six games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sam Patterson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devynn Sawyer, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Addison Munson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

The win made it two in a row for Ocean Lakes and bumps their season record up to 8-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Bayside, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Ocean Lakes will square off against rival Kellam at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dolphins 2.1, the Knights 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Bayside is set to face off against their familiar foe Salem at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
