Basketball Recap: Maize Piles Up the Points Against Haysville Campus

Maize won the last time they faced Haysville Campus and things went their way on Friday too. The Maize Eagles breezed past the Haysville Campus Colts to the tune of 79-52. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Colts are ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Maize was led to victory by Brayden Myovela and Alan Hanna. Myovela went 7-for-10 en route to 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Hanna went 6-for-9 on his way to 18 points and six assists. Those six assists gave Hanna a new career-high. Kingston Lerma was another key player, as he made all 5 shots he took to post 14 points.

Maize has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.1 points over those games. Haysville Campus' defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-15.

Looking ahead, Maize will challenge Hutchinson on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Hutchinson comes in on three and Maize on six. As for Haysville Campus, they will venture away from home to square off against Maize South at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
