Softball Recap: Saugus Drops Season-High Score on Hart

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Saugus). Everything went their way against the Hart Hawks on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-8 victory. The win continues a trend for the Centurions in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won four in a row.

Taliya Mata looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Savanna Smith, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Jordan Shepherd was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

Saugus hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Saugus pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Hart, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Saugus has already played their next match, an 11-1 victory against Golden Valley on the 27th. As for Hart, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 15-4 win against Castaic on the 27th.
