Softball Recap: Elgin Triumphs

Elgin came out on top against Round Lake on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Maroons took their matchup against the Panthers 7-3.

Braedyn Tetrev spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace Tetrev was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ainesly Downing, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and three RBI.

Elgin's win bumped their record up to 5-18. As for Round Lake, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Elgin and Round Lake could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Maroons will face off against West Aurora at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (512 vs. 248). Meanwhile, Round Lake (ranked 488th) will meet Grayslake North (ranked 197th) at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
